Terry's new Statement
John Terry has agreed a new five-year contract worth a staggering £50 million to commit his long-term future to Chelsea, according to British media reports.Terry had two years remaining on his existing deal, which was estimated to be worth £130,000 a week. And this latest contract is designed to commit the England captain to the club until the latter stages of his career.Under the terms of his new arrangement Terry will be paid £160,000 a week at Stamford Bridge until the deal ends when he is 33.His salary will be the highest yet paid to an English footballer and will make him the second-best paid player in the Premier League behind Manchester City star Robinho.Chelsea have taken the decision to keep the deal quiet for fear of a negative response from supporters and critics.Over the summer, Terry was a high-profile transfer target of City, with the club prepared to offer him a mind-blowing deal worth around £250,00 a week to sever his 14-year links with the London giants. Some have accused the 28-year-old of delibetrately using City to broker a new deal for himself.
