Football Federation Australia have confirmed that Australia has bid to host the FIFA World Cup in either 2018 or 2022.The FFA had previously stated it would lodge bids for both tournaments and were given the full backing of the Australian government in December last year when they pledged Aus$45.6million (19.9million pounds) to help the campaign. FIFA set the deadline for bids to stage the tournament for Monday with the successful bidders to be announced in December 2010. Other countries to have expressed an interest in hosting a World Cup include England, Russia, Indonesia, Japan, Qatar, China and the United States. But Lowy is unperturbed about the prospect of facing off against bids from larger, more established footballing nations.
